DVBViewer Starter

Or you can use program I compiled from mptray source. It is starting DVBViewer without having to copy the exe.

Special thanks to Smirnuff from Media Portal user group for letting me share this.

extract to DVBViewer program folder. run mptray -register. Start it.

mptray.zip

Is it possible to give a start parameter to DVBViewer ? The reason is, DVDbviewer needs the Parameter -x53 (rebuild graph) to run properly at my system.

Hi, I also have the firedtv remote and the dvbstarter is crashing for me when I exit DVBViewer. What I've done to solve this is maybe not the best way but it seems to work:

Download the program Application monitor from http://www.jockersoft.com/english/appmonitor_index.php It works on Vista 64 that I have. Add the starter program in Application monitor, have it check if it's running in the timespan that you want.

Add this registry key to have programs crash silently, so you don't have to press ok to close programs that crash.

DWORD \Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\DontShowUI = "1"

This works for me as a dirty way to get the start functionality with the firedtv remote.

Anyone who uses DVBViewer just for satellite can open the player by using mediacenter mender and inserting a shortcut through that...

I made a custom strip called it satellite then stuck DVBViewer shortcut in there.

When you click it it opens DVBViewer and minimises VMC!

Hello !

I have a problem with this plugin .

I download it and put in folder with DVBViewer beta 4.3.1.30 "C:\Program Files (x86)\DVBViewer Beta\starter.exe" (I have windows 7 x64 v7600).

I set it up :

2693058dd72c.png

After reboot it does not work , but the plugin is loaded in the tray . WinLIRC also loaded . I'm enter in the Starter.exe settings . And this is what I see :

Please help me . How I need to make the starter.exe each time to choose WinLIRC ?

Link to comment

Problem is that WinLIRC was off when DVBViewer Starter was starting (or they can't communicate)...

ATM I can't see my config and I don't use W7, anyhow I can suggest you to:

• set the correct path to WinLIRC in the "Where is winlirc?" field

• check on which user the two prog were started with (perhaps WinLIRC as to be started as Administrator...)

I set the correct path to WinLIRC and it start with Administrator priveleges (My current profile is Administrator).

After 3-5 normal starts (when I restart my PC) one start is broken . I don't know why but problem is in starter ...

When this happen, open the DVBViewer Starter Settings and look if the check near "Winlirc" is still there; if not, AFAIK is because "WinLIRC was off when DVBViewer Starter was starting (or they can't communicate)", as I told you before; in that case the Starter automagically and quickly react reconfiguring itself as if WinLIRC was never there, unchecking the relative option and - for what I can see - also quickly saving the wrong settings, so that you have to correct it by hand... o:)

(Hoping that it can be on any help) my WinLIRC - which very rarely had this kind of problem - is configured to start via a link in the "Autostart" Start menu folder with the following command line, that also set it's CPU priority to realtime:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C "START /REALTIME /MIN /B /D%ProgramFiles%\WinLirc %ProgramFiles%\WinLirc\winlirc.exe"

...only take care that it's tested and working on a XP SP3 PC... dunno if that command can work at all on W7...

As can be seen from the window title is a WinLIRC error, not a Starter one, but a very strange one: I've never seen such error and I could never get it whatever I'll do... maybe you have a different version? Mine is 0.6.5, AFAIK the last one...

But what about the "Winlirc" check mark in the DVBViewer Starter Settings? It's still there? (see up)

So it's the same problem I had before the trick I show you before (start WinLIRC with a link in the "Autostart" Start menu)...

Have you already tried it?

Tried. Anyway the same effect happens . Even less frequently.

I do not understand. It is evident that the problem in the STARTER ! It should be set so : If starter.exe starts first that it did not remove the check mark from WinLIRC himself, but waited until WinLIRC starts ?

This question refers to the developers .

P.S. Sorry for my English :bye:

Er... yes, I agree; I'm sorry if I mislead you before: I simply mean that the error message of your picture isn't the Starter error we are struggling for...

If starter.exe starts first that it did not remove the check mark from WinLIRC himself, but waited until WinLIRC starts ?
I'm sure that this is LarsMQ (the Starter programmer) intention; indeed normally is the Starter that start WinLIRC (this is the scope of the line "Where is winlirc?") and obviously wait for it, but in some case this goes wrong and the check disappear and bla bla bla...

This happened only on 1 of my 2 PC, apparently without any good reason except that it's a very old PC (a PIII 933MHz...); working around it I found the trick I told you before that definitively fixed the problem for my old PC, but evidently it's not a universal fix...

So I also hope that Lars will have the time to make the "Winlirc" check more "resistant"...

HI:)

any solutions since last post?

I have tried to get this to work several times the last year or so, today I tried again ;)

Here "starter.exe" starts, it finds winlirc that is always unmarked. (why I don't know.

(Starter.exe is in it's own folder. (if not winlirc is not found.)

I mark it and press apply settings.

but I can't start DVBV.

Question: the field "learn", what is the meaning with that?.. and the fiels "parameters" for that matter..

I use Medion/MCE remote (X-10) Technotrend card.

I'm not sure I have understood the posts about link "autostart" in startmenu. something to do with msconfig? and Winlirc should be started before "starter.exe"

but how?

I can't find winlirc anywhere, but starter.exe finds it in the starter-folder, but I can't se it :).. don't kill me..I can't see it ..it is not there ..I swear.. :pc:

any good ideas or solutions out there somewhere?

have a nice evening :)

Hi krasno,

how many questions!

...quickly:

1) no news/solutions/new versions yet;

2) I don't think your remote can work with WinLIRC (AFAIK it only support Animax IR serial receiver) but, as stated in the first post of this tread, you have to use a X10 input plugin...

ha:) yeah many questions...

I do use the x10 plugin, the remote works:), only it can not turn on DvbV.

I can live without it, but it would be nice if one day it was possible to turn on PC and DvbV. 100% from the remote :)

just a little dream...

Link to comment

Where, in DVBViewer or in DVBViewer Starter?

The point is:

1) if the X10 plugin appear in the DVBV-Starter

2) you have to check it and then,

3) when you press "Learn" you can press a remote button to assign it the "turn on DVBV" action

4) press "Save" for store the Starter config

5) MINIMIZE the DVBV-Starter window (otherwise it'll shut down completely and - as you can imagine - can't work at all...)

6) with DVBViewer closed, press the "learned" remote button to turn DVBV on...

So, what I'm asking is: in your case, which one of these tasks won't work?

BTW: you won't need WinLIRC at all, so never mind of it; "parameters" mean commands line you can add to starting DVBViewer (ie: "-x111" to start it in HTPC mode; see "actions.ini" file in main DVBV folder to a complete list); "autostart" mean DVBV-Starter will automatically start up at Windows start (therefore it'll appear somewere in msconfig...)

Hi :)

In DVBViewer...

1)it don't (I tried to copy all x-10 files into the starter-folder, but did not change anything).

2; 3; 4; 5) not possible..

Question now is ( surprise surprise..) How to get x-10 to show up in starter.exe ?

I'll take a closer look at the "actions.ini" file later..

and thanx for your answer !! :bye:

(I tried to copy all x-10 files into the starter-folder, but did not change anything)

...that's the first problem: DVBV-Starter MUST be copied in the main DVBViewer folder (eg "c:\Programs files\DVBViewer")!

I tryed myself adding the X-10 remote plugin files into the DVBViewer/Plugin folder and as soon as I've activate it in DVBViewer options and pressed "ok", then suddenly the "X10 Remote" choice appeared on-the-fly into the DVBV-Starter windows I've already opened! (w00t)

Hope this works also for you, so we can go on to next steps!

but.. that was what I tried first, before I made the starter-folder.. and x-10 has always been working ,and marked in "options/input/inputplugins"

If I start starter.exe from the folder where Dvbviewe.exe is, the starter.exe opens as usual, but all fields are blank, and none of the fields or buttoms can be used.

testing testing...

AHAAA.. (w00t)

did something: made a search for all x-10 "files" on my PC an copied all I found, no matter where.. to DVBViewer.exe folder and guess what?..(some was there already..)

:rolleyes::)

x-10 now show up in starter.exe !! :ball:

if marked, and "apply" everything looks god

One minor problem is : the remote still don't start DVBViewer, but theoretically it looks fine.. :) (.. seen from Houston..haha)

but we still have a problem somewhere..

latest: now I'm in serious trouble, but I remembereed one thing: starter must be turned on!! and I had forgotten that- BLAME ME!!!-, BUT windows Explorer now crashes every ---------------... time I open explorer.. so I have to restart..

I'll be back.. :robot:

Link to comment

it's really weird (after restart)

now x-10 ONLY show up in starter.exe if I start "starter.exe " from the starter folder.. (this is too far out, I know...)

If I start starter.exe from the dvbviever.exe folder, x-10 is not there!! (and all x-10 files are still present)

and..still no response from the remote..

also I notice that starter.exe don't start when windows start, no matter I marked that before the restarted.

Positive story: I managed to set up anaglyph shaders ( yesterday) so now all programs looks weird :)... those with split picture not so weird as earlier :)

you know I'm all out of red/cyan glasses..and those with golden liquid and white foam only makes it worse..hahahaha

so what do a clever man do? try to find glasses on the net, express delivery... :)

so 5 gallon.. I mean 5 pair of colored glasses on their way..

next new feature in DVBViewer should be a beer-pipeline.. or how 'bout a vodka buttom?... wireless vodka!! IN 3D!!!! :)

'how'bout that...?

LATEST (added later):

now x-10 is not present no matter where I start starter.exe..

back to scratch so to say... and it is a little weird that it was working and then not (after explorer crash and restart) I can not see anything is changed in any of the folders...

...mmmh, I tink that they have rather to be copied in "Plugins" folder... and please delete the DVDB-Starter folder: as I told you it have to reside only in DVBViewer main folder...

...BUT... I have an important find for you (or at least I hope so): in one of my PCs where I installed DVBViewer in "for all users" mode (ie UserMode=2, the usual one; in all others I use UserMode=0, better for testing), the DVBV-Starter is completely blank when I start it while DVBViewer is already started up, whilst, when DVBViewer is off, I can see all DVBV-Starter options and change its configuration...

Anyhow: check if the remote is still working with DVBViewer and please post here the content of "dvbvstart.ini" file you find in the DVBViewer "Configuration folder" (Help/Configuration folder); again, beware: this file have to be closed (ie not openeded in a editor) if you want see a working DVBV-Starter...

5) MINIMIZE the DVBV-Starter window (otherwise it'll shut down completely and - as you can imagine - can't work at all... ) Answer: makes no difference

New question: what do you mean with: "or select DVBViever executable in the "DVBViewer.EXE" DVBV-Starter field"

attached screendump of starter.exe

The image you post is exacly what appear when DVBViewer is started (or maybe stucked in bacground...) -> please restart your PC to be sure DVBViewer isn't in memory... and...

BEFORE you start DVBV-Starter and/or DVBViewer, substitute all dvbvstart.ini content with this one:

[Winlirc]
path=
[Main]
StartAfterStandby=0
DVBViewer=C:\Program Files\DVBViewer\DVBViewer.exe
Parameters=
[Plugins]
1=X10 Remote

THEN start DVBV-Starter: if you are lucky now its configuration window looks like that:

post-485-029584900 1285248970_thumb.gif

IF THAT ALL ARE TURE:

a) select the row "X10Remote"

B) this will active the "Learn" checkbox

c) check it

d) press the desired remote key

e) click on "Apply Settings"

f) minimize DVBV-Starter

g) cross your finger while pressing choosed remote key...

h) ...DVBViewer starts...

Well I also did not win in Lotto..

I'm really sorry :( it did not work..

Later I also tried to shut down RecordService, but still the same.

And checked carefuly in taskmanager for any signs of Dvbv. nothing running. (after restart)

Also tried to delete starter.exe and un-zip the file again, and so on,

Also tried to copy starter.exe and dvbstart.ini (your version) and all x-10 files to the programfiles/DVBViewer folder.. just to try that also..

Now.. I will not be much home the next week, so I suggest we stop for now, I mean no reason you waste more time now hence I don't have time the next week or so.

AND VERY much thanx for all your suggestions, and time you used to try to solve the problem.

I am sure it is just a minor thing that is wrong somewhere, but where?..

what I don't understand is: ONE time starter.exe worked as it should, exactly as the picture you send, ( remote still could not turn dvbv. on, but let's forget that :) )

...and after that it has not been possible to make starter-exe work at all. Only blank fields.

The problems started with an Explorer-crash..

And still from time to time explorer crashes when I try to open dvbv-folder under programdata/CMUV.

Another thing is that sometimes (only sometimes) dvbbviewer folder (in Programfiles) is dubbed !! it is the same folder - not a copy- be course if I copy something into folder one it is also present in folder two+ not possible to copy anything from folder one to two ( source and destination folder is the same), the weird thing is: it ONLY happens with the DVBViewer folder under programfiles, no other folders anywhere ( as far as I can see...)

Totally :iiam:

so.. maybe a re-install is about time ..? on the other hand... the remote-turn-on-dvbv is the only problem I have..

Again thanx a lot!!, and I'll be back later !!

HI again

If you mean OS, it is win7.

Will think deeply about permisssions, and try to check it out.. not quite sure how to eventually change that,or find out, but if that was the problem wouldn't I get a MS warning? or something?.

If I used Vista I would get 211 pop-ups asking if I was totally sure I wanted to use this program... :))

And the program ( starter.exe) is running, but "blank"

gotta go!

Hi Again :)

After one week I came home to super trouble, timer in RS didn't work, could not wake up from sleep.

And no matter what id refused to work.

SO I deceided to re-install RS and DVBV.

After many hours I got that part working.

This very nice to know when dealing with that problem !!:

http://www.DVBViewer.tv/forum/topic/38585-rs-sleep-record-sleep-ok-little-bug-improvement/

Anyway:

Then it was back to remote problems.

and nothing worked at all.

Then I tried to downlond x-10 drivers again, and then I needed type the serial to get acces.. or pay for the drivers..

And THAT is not to be found anywhere ( it's a Medion PC born with X-10)

so.. I deleted all x-10 drivers totally, in all folders, in device manager, and in Regedit I deleted the last fractions of x-10, found my old Medion Aplication and Support CD and installed x-10.

Still no remote was working in DVBV. Only the power buttom could turn off the PC. Which told me it worked somehow :)

Then I copied x-10 .dll files into all possible folders in DVBV and CMUV one by one. Still nothing worked.

Also no settings in settings/options/ inputplugin or

New install of RS and DVBViewer, and then it worked :)

then I took a look at dvbstart.ini, it looks like this, should be fine.

[Winlirc]

path=

[Main]

StartAfterStandby=0

DVBViewer=C:\Program Files\DVBViewer\DVBViewer.exe

Parameters=

[Plugins]

1=X10 Remote

and now I have tried to copy all x-10 + starter.exe to all possible folders I could imagine :) including plugin folders. ( and trash-can hahaha)

Starter.exe is empty, when started, totally... no matter what I try.

The remote is working in all other matters.

Dvbv. works perfect generally !!!, but is very slow when starting up (25 seconds) But that is not a new thing, that began with RC1. no especially hard loads on processor, 4-6%, and has nothing to do with the remote problem.

And possible to live with :) that is not a serious problem at all.

According to get the remote to start DVBV:

I think it simply don't work here, for unknown reasons.. :(

I begin to think I better forget about it.. and live with that remote can not start dvbv..

Next thing I want to get to work is: how to be ale to use a browser from a wireless keyboard, directly from DVBV HTPC menu..

What I have read about it so far did not make me more clever .. but that's another story..

Have a nice day :)

I'm pretty sure that - unfortunately - this behaviour is due to OS you have, W7, and it's related to the "Program folder" permission handling...

I haven't W7 to try, but perhaps this works:

1) create a new folder named (e.g.) "DVBStart"

2) give this folder ALL permission for ALL users (if it's like XP "all users" = "Anyone")

3) copy "starter.exe" into it

4) try to config and use it...

Remember to configure DVBStarter with DVBViewer closed...

Good luck and please let me know...

it changes nothing, I'm realy sorry.. :(

Dvbstarter.-exe still blank.

But if I press the power on and off button on the remote, the monitor turns off or on.. PC don't go into sleepmode or something like that. Very strange. and that is new (w00t)

I also tried to download x-10 remote plugin 1.1.1 and follow instuctions, but ..

I still have a much worse problem, RS don't record, only sometimes, it's like it looses connection to RS after a recording, and PC can not go into real sleep mode after a recording.

If not set (in the timer) to go into sleep-mode after a recording it also sometimes loose connection to RS, like RS don't know what time it is, and the passed recordings stay in the timer, ( not recorded) after the time where the recording should have ended

Was that easy to understand?...

in both cases only a "turn off services" (with RS-tray button) and then on again, or restart PC helps.

Then passed timers are gone in RS-timer, but not recorded of course :)

Maybe I should try to install a non-beta version of RS?, if I have one..somewhere..

The only one I can see in members area is RS 1.6.5.2 Beta.

Before I downloaded the RS beta I had no problems what so ever, except for the start of Dvbv with the remote of course :)

Also not using RC2, which I used with the old RS, before I installed RS-beta.

And maybe you are right, maybe it is win7...

I guess that it is Win7 that reacts to the remote (Power-botton) which never happend before, if it did, I can't remember how I stopped it :))

I will upload suporttool, just in case it helps :) ( and don't mention my half old transponderlists please :) )

wohooo (w00t)

I started all over again, and fist issue was to disable Windows Media center.

It started every time I pressed the "green" button on the remote.

This is what i did and it worked o:) :

click on start

In the search-line type: gpedit.msc and press enter

"(Local) Group Policy Editor" opens

go into "computer configuration"

/ Adminstrtive components

/ Windows components

/ Windows Mediacenter

klik på "do not allow Windows Media Center to run" (to the right)

In next window select "enable"

Remark you have to choose ENABLE to chose NOT to run Windows MediaCenter. ( typical Microsoft..)

Do the same in:

/Administrative templates

/ Windows templates

Restart!

Now start of Windows media center is disabled :) press the green button and enjoy nothing happens :))

Next issue was to get dvbstarter.exe to work.

So I read the entire topic again, and changed the "dvbstart"-folder to "dvbviewerstarter" created a "plugins" folder inside that folder and copied the x10.dll file into that folder.

The new "dvbviewerstarter" folder is in C:\ProgramData\CMUV.

And now dvbstarter.exe worked :jawdrop:

If it was the change of the name of teh folder, or the adding of the plugins-folder, I don't know.. I hardly dare to touch anything :)

But after each start, or from Standby, I had to start starter.exe manually. :ermm:

so I copied a shortcut of starter.exe into the windows startup-folder.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

And dvbstarter started as expected.

:)

Any better way to do that?

then I configured starter.exe this way:

"Autostart when Windows starts"

"Start DVBViewer after suspend or standby"

Then the problems began..Holy Cow.. BLUE SCREEN every second time ( or so) I started from Standby.

..and all Recordsservice settings where gone with the wind. ( in Service Options)

Then I got an idea: unmarked those two settings in starter.exe. ( brillant idea ha' ?..)

and instead I copied a shortcut of DVBViewer.exe into the Windows start folder:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

It works when PC starts but not from Standby. (damn..)

And another thing, if DvbV is turned on when PC go into Standby, it can not find hardware when PC wakes up again.

Guess maybe DVBViewer Service is starting slower than Dvbv? or something like that, not sure..

A turn off with the remote and on again solves that problem.

As a comment: the "green button" is set up to turn dvbv. on and off, be course the Power button still take the PC into (or out of) Standby mode. ( I know I called it sleep mode earlier..sorry for that..)

I have still not tested how dvbv. behave when going into Standby after a timer-Recording if turned on ( or off for that matter)

Also the other things has only been tested shortly..and very fast.

So I'm on my way haha,, but the blue screens are really bad, they reset many settings. One bluescreen also reset the settings in Unicast in options and changed the IP address in options/recordservice ( over the test button)

Let's hope they don't keep coming back.. those blue bastards..

Windows have told me an erroer caused the problem, that makes me calm..

I'll be back later with update on stability.. :)

Till now everything has been stable.

The only thing not working is to start dvbv at PC start-up or wake-up.

And best to turn off dvbv. before going into Standby.

and a small error in last post:

The new "dvbviewerstarter" folder is in C:\ProgramData\CMUV

should have been : C:\ProgramData\CMUV\DVBViewer

Mhhh, I'm pretty sure that's because DVBStarter was made in XP times, so it can't cope with W7 new power managment...

But - if you aren't already tired to play with your PC - I read (don't remember where) that it's possible to start DVBViewer from StandBy/Hibernate with the help of AutoIT (only don't ask me how 'cos I usen't it at all...) or - probably easyer - by setting a proper scheduled task (here there is a sample on how to start something after W7 Standby...)

Hope that's of some use...
