Updating to new version 4 advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been using DVBV for several months now and have everything working just how I want it.

I can record ok with BBC HD and ITV HD which matters to me and can watch recorded programmes ok. I also have Event Viewer set-up to use my Hauppage remote with DVB V and Power DVD 8. My multi-channel audio over S/PDIF works great using PDVD codecs/filters etc.

Problem is Im not sure whether to update DVB V to V4.

I like the idea of the Freesat EPG noted in the updates and the playback ability for M2ts files. Not sure what / how other changes benefit me but I don't want to start over setting it all up or risk losing functionality that I have working and have forgotten now how to go through again.

I understand I will need to do a hardware / channel scan again after install but could someone advise if its worth me doing and remind me how to do it. The download page notes said something about not needing to download everthing, just updates marked "Today" which confuses me.

I can't really give U an advice. But I read somewhere on this board that the next release could be in 2 weeks or something. So if I were in your shoes I would probably wait for that.

I'm not sure whether installing the new version simply in a different folder still works. Maybe someone else could answer that.

If so, that would probably be the best for U. As U could make a slowly conversion from v3 to v4.

You don't need to download all and everything (skins, plugins, etc.) from the member-area, because most of these things are still the same and didn't change.

Installing the new Version in a different Folder works.

Save the configuration folder (you find it by klicking in DVBViewermenues -> About -> configuration folder)

by copying it as DVBViewer3. (DVBViewer must be closed)

Install the new Version in a Folder DVBViewer4. Copy the now Updated original config folder as DVBViewer4.

Search the usermode.ini (in the Programfolder, here DVBViewer4) and edit the entry

Root=CMUV\DVBViewer to

Root=CMUV\DVBViewer4

then you open the usermode.ini from the Programfolder of version 3 (normaly DVBViewer) and edit

Root=CMUV\DVBViewer to

Root=CMUV\DVBViewer3

Now it should work.

Maybe some translation errors included.

DVBViewer must be closed for editing, copying
